Stromberg carb help needed for TR buddy

Hey y'all,
Have a good friend with a late TR3 B that has stromberg carbs but does not do the net or e-mail. Does anyone have a good tune up reference cheat sheet you could pass onto me and I will get to him ? Something like maybe one of the TR clubs put together, etc.

The very basic stuff short of rebuilding or reconditioning should be in a Manual such as Haynes or the Bentley.

One important question is which carbs he has. I don't believe any TR3B originally came with ZS, so they must be from a later car. Most likely they are a non-emissions model, while the above link applies mostly to the emissions versions.

But I see that it is missing a couple of pages from that section. I'll try to fix that, but it may be tomorrow night before I get it done. I sent back the HP scanner with automatic page feed, and my old Canoscan is still acting cranky.

If it is the early (non-emissions) TR4 carb the good news is that the tuning procedure is very similar to the SUs. Biggest differences are the float and the use of a diaphragm but those are not necessarily 'tune-up' items other than confirming there are no holes or tears in the diaphragm.

Agree, if you have tuned SUs you should have no trouble with early Strombergs, check the rubber diaphragm in the dashpot to make sure it is not torn or cracked. If either one is you will have to replace it. The mixture nut is on the bottom of the Carb, up for leaner, down for richer. Idle screws work like similar vintage SUs.

If they are later Strombergs that's a whole nother kettle of fish...

Except you don't need that funny wrench.

I use a two shilling coin with George VI on it but a quarter will probably suit.

Shouldn't need it with SUs either unless they've been abused. I always turn mine with my fingers, even though the funny wrench is in the tool box.

BTW, I updated the TR4 workshop manual last night with the missing carb pages. Let me know if you find any other issues.

Thanks Guys for the info ! I will get it to him. Believe it is a very late TR3B with TR4 running gear since Triumph used that on the last TR3's they made ? He's good with SU's so that should help.

Even early TR4 used SU H6 carbs; I believe the ZS carbs weren't introduced until after the end of TR3B production. Last TR3B was in Dec 62; ZS carbs weren't introduced until the following spring (roughly, don't have my TR4 production info handy).
