So here is the next step from my above post:

So from here I got parts dipped and cleaned. It was a Journey that started at 5:00 am this morning.

OK so I went to pick up my newly cleaned metal....WOW What a difference...

So I took my daughter with me.

So here is a little before and after..

I like what I am seeing....I did find a little pitting....but looks repairable.

Here is the trunk

I have a few more things to do before I can lift the body off of the frame and then it takes a trip to the same treatment center.

I need to brace the doors and get a engine hoist from a buddy. The guys is picking up on Wednesday to prime all of these parts.

Hi There TR3aguy,

Looks like your on a roll. Thats the stage where mine is right now relative to the body tub & parts. Sheet Metal in the Body Shop; Engine & Trans. completed, detailed and ready for re-installation. All Ext & Int component parts ready for re-installation. Sounds like "Some Ass`y Required" for my TR3 in about a month or so; "I HOPE".

Wow...you are moving much faster then me for sure. I have a friend that is going to be assisting with metal replacement. I am removing bit and pieces to get them refreshed for reinstall. If I can get all the body pieces replaced and a sound chassis by fall....I will be happy.

Keep me in the loop when the reassembly begins. I have a lot of parts in hand that I am not sure where they go. I need to connect the dots by seeing pictures of the parts installed.

Hi JP,

I actually took delv. of the TR late Dec. 09. Tore it all apart by late Feb. Thank goodness I have a friend who is a Brit Car Mech, Has a Very large Garage (3 -4 LBCs will fit in there), Air tools, torches etc & most importantly; He has a "LIFT"!! Man, Does that make life easier!!

The TR was brought over to the Body Shop (Resto House) early Mar.2010 & Has been sitting since. Work was supposed to begin then but a few un-fortunate things happened with the Shop Owner.

So; I was looking forward to the "Re-Ass`y" about now but it looks like its a month or two away.

Well; There`s always something to do on her.

Have Fun with Your TR,

Russ

well before you put primer on it you need to think about the complete paint system, pick a manufacturer and stick with their paint all the way or you will have issues and if you are going to do it your self, which can be done, read all the directions, it can get confusing. like when you spray with metal etching primer on bare metal, you have to spray the primer with in 12 hours any thing longer and you have to skuff it with a scotch brite pad, and it goes on and on, I suggest reading all information from primers, to sealers, to base coat to clear coat applications, if thats the way you are going, what ever your paint guy says, I would double check his recommendations

I know

That is fantastic advise Hondo.....I am pretty sure that I will use Dupont for the paint. I have painted some smaller items with a Spies Hecker primer 3255..
I will check with the paint guys to make sure it is compatible...I will have about 6 months before I will get to laying down the paint...so I think I just need to make sure that it is not permeable once it is put on, if so then I may need to top coat with a compatible primer sealer to keep the rust out.

It was phosphate rinsed so the metal guy said about two weeks, depending on humidity, just make sure it is wiped down with a good metal prep.

Thanks,
JP

JP - just a heads up - be careful about the "weeping" from seams and bolt holes. You need to dry these areas out before priming. I avoided some problems but its amazing how it weeps out if you don't dry it first. I'll post some pix showing this hopefully tonight.
