Wedge Stripped gearbox filler hole thread

My TR8 has a stripped gearbox filler hole and I only have myself to blame because I am the only one who serviced it over the last 20 years. I will put some RTV on the upper plug threads as a temporary fix until I figure out a more acceptable repair. Any ideas?

Heli coil it may be?
Or if it’s into Ali?
Just cut /tap the next size up ?
Or find an old tapered plug from an earlier TR
as it tapered it should eventually tighten enough to seal.

I'm going to try a 5/8" freeze/expansion plug.

Find the thread and diameter of the plug, buy a tap in that size and thread and try to chase the threads BEFORE you do anything else. And put a ton of grease on the tap to catch as many aluminum crumbs as possible.
