Strip gas tank?

I had my EType's gas tank cleaned out and lined now it's time to do the outside of the tank. I have the PO15 Kit now but what is the preferred/recommended method to strip the outside of the tank? I have a portable bead blaster and thinking that would be the way to go. Suggestions
 
Rust, or just paint and patina? If it is just ugly, paint stripper should be OK. If it is rusty also, bead/sandblasting should be fine. Depending on how long it has been since it had gasoline in it, a ground connection might be a good idea if blasting it. I seem to recall something about static electricity build up when blasting. Be safe, we depend on you...:smile:

Since the tank hase been stripped and lined you shouldn't need to worry about gas fumes. I'm a big fan of blasting, generally I don't have the patience for sanding and stripper fumes make my head spin (even in a ventilated area with a respirator). :smile:

Blasting shouldn't have any issues cleaningit off, unless it's gooey on the outside. Scrape/wirebrush the gooey off and then go to town.

And, make *absolutely sure* you have all the openings closed up appropriately so no media gets in the tank.

Well, I'm out here now bead blasting the tank. I'm using 80 Grit glass bead media. It works but its slow going; but its leaving the surface pretty nice.
 
Clean steel is a wonderful thing. :thumbsup: :laugh:
