TR2/3/3A Strange TR3 side curtains ???

My TR3 came with a set of side curtains that I have never seen. Were there any after market side curtains sold for these cars? These are mostly plexiglass with aluminum framing. The front of the curtain, next to the w/s post is curved slightly and comes back to a aluminum sideways V going vertical in the opening. The bottom/rear section is clear plexiglass with a black plastic edging. The top rear half is a hinged, aluminum framed, drop down panel with sliding plexiglass windows. They could even be homemade??? The one thing I know for sure is that they are real ugly! Anyone seen anything like this? Junque or Treasure? Probably some rare prototype that's worth more than the car

Fascinating! They almost look as if someone took early Spridget side curtains and modified them to fit a TR! I've seen other aftermarket TR sidecurtains, but nothing quite like these!

I'm not home now but they have the "look" of the plexyglss sidescreens used by the LeMans cars in 1959.

I like Andy's theory -- certainly a creative if not attractive solution.

Back in the day there were several aftermarket side curtains -- JCWhitney surely sold quite a few Most lacked the crafted elegance (IMO) of the originals, relying on bare aluminum and rubber seals rather than stitched uphostery.

Here is a picture of the 1959 Le Mans car. Yes they look like modified Sprite sidescreens, but the trailing plexiglass looks like the Le Mans car. It is something I am thing about doing on my car using the "Racestorarions" sidescreens that I have.

found spridget side curtains on ebay. I can see how that would come to mind for the upper part but it is not the same size or shape. so that rules out the spridget theory. have to check the MGA theory. I'm confident they are a "modified" something. I like the sound of "Lemans racing curtains" may use that to list them on ebay to spark some interest. Maybe I could list them along with the exhaust lead pipe that had a cutout on it. Never saw a cutout on a TR3 either.

Those are interesting. I have several different types (some like TR3Aguys) but nothing like like yours. I go for the homemade theory.

I'm with you there. I got these out thinking I might use them on those cool, but clear days to extend the season, but the car ran from me when I tried to put one on. Just too ugly.

I have the same side curtains on my recently purchased one owner TR3. I had started to wonder if they were home made but now it appears they are not.

Interesting and nice to know. They are definitely utilitarian looking. I may clean mine up a little and see if they look any better on the car. One is in decent shape but the other has the lower,rear section broken. I'm sure I can get that cut to fit as it is just flat plexiglass, but not sure it's worth the effort.
