Strange rear light

Have you ever seen rear light like this ??
The lense is made of plastic and are threaded inside.
What car does it belong to ??
Size is about 3 inches
There are no name or numbers visible





Please take notice that these lenses have internal THREADS and must be screwed to the base, and doesn't use separate screws !!

That is rare. Looks like the common MG, Daimler, etc. lens except for the screw factor. Is this something we BCF'rs should be looking out for at used part tents??

One thought, these lights are not uncommon as top & side lights for transport truck & trailers. I have considered using them from the local store as they are cheap and easy. It might simply be a generic replacement that got used because it was handy.

A very good thought John, it really could be a "commercial" lamp !!
But, that makes me think - why dosent anybody recognize it ??

Looks like a single filament bulb. Are there any bulb markings that might indicate voltage? I'm wondering if it's a clearance light for a lorry. Are you sure it's a ~rear~ light?

My guess is that those lights were made in South Africa where the cars were manufactured.
Probably custom made specially for this - there is four on each car - would make the "order" to 10 - 12 000 pcs !!!
Some cars were shipped to other countries as CKD's, to be assembled there.

It's a real "hard to find" part !!
