Strange Computer Issue

Re: Strange Computer Issue - UPDATE

Live & learn when you're traveling in 3rd world countries, Doc! Now the question is: how much damamge? Can they just get it out or is it so embedded that we have to reload operating system!!

Re: Strange Computer Issue - UPDATE

I realize they may have first said this back when Oog invented the wheel ... but anybody get the feeling this "technology thing" is getting a bit ahead of us?

T.

Oog! what the heck is that thing? It's waaaaaay too complicated - and it might take you places you don't really want to go to!

Re: Strange Computer Issue - UPDATE

The link I posted above is a way to remove it, Tony. It depends on the guys doin' the job, really. It ~should~ be possible to untangle it from the OS, but more time than scraping it bare and reloading XP.

Oh, and "update" and "upgrade" are both profanities, IMO.

Re: Strange Computer Issue - UPDATE

They're using that link, Doc...guy said it would work if the HEAT hadn't done too much damage to my system.

(and folks ask me why I use a mac and not a pc ...)

Onward through the fog!

and good luck Tony - hope you pull through squeaky clean, and no longer packin' heat :jester:

Re: Strange Computer Issue - UPDATE

Geez, Tom... I use a laptop PC without any problems.

With LINUX on it.

It's an old Toshi Satellite (4030 CDT, I think) with both Linux and NT5 in a dual boot config. Rarely do I go to the windoze OS. Posted here with it earlier today from the back porch, WiFi. FC6.

Re: Strange Computer Issue - UPDATE

What's kinda funny is that I've got my laptop setup to automatically grab all the email I have on my server when its initially turned on...yesterday, they went on-line with my laptop & yanked all my email - even that which I was working with on this computer!

When I realized it, I ran by their shop & showed them how I had it set up....so they created another account on my laptop to use when they're checking whether or not they've cleaned it out!
