storing my midget for the winter

I know this may seem a bit premature. However, I was just informed that my garage for the NE winter is not available. Has anyone experienced storing their car in one of those portable tent-type garages. I line in MA and have thought about laying a blue tarp on the ground under the car to help prevent moisture from coming up into the portable garage.
any thoughts or previous experience is welcomed.
 
Hmmmm... maybe you should drive it out to southern California for the winter.


I'd skip the tarp and go for some heavy duty clear plastic. Those tarps are generally porous.
 
A friend, Kim deBourbon, keeps her MGB in one all winter....I've seen photos of it covered with snow.

She lays plastic on the ground, then plywood, & then drives the MG into it before she winterizes the car. Right now, she's running for Vice Chairman of NAMGBR.

I have seen to many of these fall down after a heavy snow. You need to keep them clean.

Kim uses the one from Harbor Freight....I think every year she buys a new tarp & throws it over the old one.
 
definately put the plywood over the tarp to keep the condensation down-we live in NH...... the portable shelter we have works out ok. But you do want to watch the snow load.
 
We had a local girl die, last winter. She went into her shelter to push the snow off (using a broom against the inside) when the structure collapsed. She suffocated while her mother tried to dig her out.

Horrible story, all to say... if you live in the snow belt, be very aware of how dangerous these can be during heavy snowfalls. You may also want to check your insurance and confirm that they cover the vehicle if stored in a temporary structure.
