I found this on Amazon. It is a lined canvas round pie carrier that fits under the spare tire and can be filled with all sorts of spare parts, tools, or other goodies. It is sturdy and only cost $10.50! Best of all, it just happened to match my blue interior with grey piping. Red also available.

That's perfect. I was thinking about a cut-down plastic bucket, but I like the pie carrier. And I have a blue interior also.
 
The cut down 5 gal bucket is perfect. Use the lid too. Drill a hole for a long SS bolt and use a SS wingnut to seal it. It clears the wheel diameter by 1 inch. Water tight and holds a lot of stuff. I did this 12 years ago and has been easy to access. Cost me for a bolt, washer and wingnut, maybe $1.50 and saved a bucket form the dump.
 
The bucket idea is awesome, a black bucket won't look out of place with the black armacord. righteous dude
 
I use a round metal cookie container from a long ago holiday present. It seals well and fits snugly under the wheel. Use a metal waterproof ammo box that seals tightly with a gasket and that fits in the corner of trunk.
 
My lid had a rubber gasket. I drilled a hole in the center of the bottom and center of the lid and put the bolt through with the wingnut on the lid. The bucket was black.

Although I haven't measured one yet, I would expect the top of a five gallon plastic bucket would be wider than the resulting diameter of the bucket when cut down to fit under the wire wheel since the buckets are normally tapered. If that is the case, does the top still fit and seal on the cut down bucket?
