STOLEN MGA

Steve Meline of Huntington Beach had his MGA Roadster stolen last night. Please keep an eye out for anything that might help recover his car. Hopefully Steve will drop in and keep us updated on the situation.

Here is a clip from the UK BBS about what happened...

"Last night, after getting home from Whistler, it was stolen. I had an elctrical fire (just smoke) on the way home with the pizza. Parked it, and returned to find it gone. I had it for 27 years. Please keep an eye-out for it or its components. It has a Ford 5-speed, very well developed 18V engine, roller rockers, Maniflow intake and exhaust manifolds, MGA SUs...."

Here is a list of specs, as found on Barney Gaylord's web site:

Beige MGA 1500, no bumpers, smooth valence, racing windscreen,
headrest fairing, gold racing mirrors and gold alloy wheels,
black tonneau cover, black carpet, tan leather seats and headrest pad.
Underneath it has a Ford 5-speed, well developed 18V engine,
roller rockers, Maniflow intake and exhaust manifolds, MGA SUs....

At first I thought it might be yours. That stinks for Steve Meline. Is there a chance that it may have been impounded? Lets hope for that and not a chop shop.

I had the same thought. If it had a short / electrical fire, someone might not be able to drive it away. Hopefully it was just towed but I assume he's already checked on that possibility.

Keep us posted.

I would guess impounded if it was anywhere near the beach ,

I will keep a lookout for it and email this page to my friend who lives thee,

I doubt that it will be chopped up or exported , its too unique of a car ,

That's exactly what happens to unique cars: they're exported.....heck, if it gets to some states that don't require titles for older cars, a completely new identity can be put on it, it can then be repainted & sold...I'd watch ebay!

Hmmmm! That's the second "A" in the same general area within a year!! Anyone remember the alert on the red one that was posted a few months ago? It was also a unique example! I never heard anything further on that one!! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/frown.gif

Yes, it was a red roadster and was stolen from Santa Monica. That's about 40 miles north of where this one was taken. I never heard another word about it so I assume the car was never recovered.

Problem is, they are fetching big money in europe, and especially in the UK, and I would hazard a guess that this is where they are going. In a container already, I would think.........

I have contacts in UK law enforcement still, but I would need concrete information as to where they would be coming in to the country, which I just don't have.

If I were a betting man then I would hazard a wager on this......

Unfortunately it is very easy to get a new vin plate...

Even in this country.

I know a guy who has a whole shoe box full of MGA plates.

I also have a few & titles for those cars aren't necessary around here.

Great!

Details?

This makes you want to ID metal stamp your frame and body in a inconspicuous place.

Oooh, I like that! Do you think MagnaVolt stickers would be a deterrent?
