stock earlier style steel wheels

Just posted in the "Wanted" section that I need a set (5?) of the steel wheels that came on earlier Bs, NOT Rostyle for a project. Tony is looking in his piles but if anyone else knows of some I would appreciate any leads. Thanks, Jack

Jack - are you looking for the 4" wide roadster steel disc wheels? Or the 4-1/2" GT wheels?

Zowieee! Just tried to post back and all I got was some very long list of error messages off of the forum site. Weird!

Anyway. The wider the better on the wheel issue. I suppose that the spec indicating a 5" wheel is referring to the Rostyle, so the 4 1/2" wheel will do. If I have to use the 4"ers I'll have to split them and add a spacer ring to get them out to 5". Whatever you can find though will be of great help. I would like to have five wheels though if I can get them so as to have a "proper" spare when all of this is done.

BTW: I have a tube type rear axle sitting over near the shop door, and I keep spying on it trying to get up enough gumption to try the "de-camber" trick. One day it will just be too much and I'll start on it. Thanks Tony, Jack

Tony once made a set of look alikes out of Nissan wheels and mg hubcaps, they are 5" wide and may be cheaper

Yep, I took a set of Nissan 200SX 15" wheels - cut the hub cap clips off, turned them around, centered & rewelded so I could pop a set of early MGB hub caps on them...looked like MGC steel wheels...they were a bit heavier than stock wheels but they were wider & 15".

Nope, I didn't keep any photos when I sold them.

are you sure they were 15" Tony, I thought the 3 I have are 14". I'll have to go out to the garage and look

Fourteens would help out in the clearances department if they made 14" 200SX items. I am not a fan of ultra low profile tires so fitting larger profiles on 15" wheels might present a fender lip problem or worse. I have no clue about Nissan stuff so I am going to rely on you guys. I do however cotton to the look of the MGC wheel. The elongated perforations would go very well with the look that I have in mind. Waiting on you folks to push me in the right direction. Jack

You know, chuck, its been awhile - they could've been 14"..I'm still looking for the 4th for you

& am making 1 more phone call about a carb this morning.

Great idea for a rotisserie you've got there Twig.

getting closer

Okay, I have determined that 240Z wheels were 4.5 X 14 and that the bolt pattern was/is the same as a B. I can use the 4.5 width but I would like to know a few more things before I go asking at the wrecking yard.

One: What was the offset or backspace on 240Z wheels?
Two: Were the 240Z and 240SX wheels the same?
Three: Did either of them have perforations around the circumference of the central disc?

Re: getting closer

you need 240sx wheels, they have the perforations, and are steel as opposed to aluminium. I have found 3 of them but haven't gotten the fourth yet, as all the scrap yards around here are crushing steel wheels

Re: getting closer

Thanks Chuck! I'm on the hunt.

BTW: If I find some do you want me to pick up an extra and send it to you?

Jack
