For those of you with front loader washing machines:

Mold and Oder problems

We have one of the models shown in the video and when I first heard about this, I checked, and sure enough there was black mold under the rubber gasket (we had noticed the musty smell too). I thoroughly cleaned the gasket and now we leave the door open a bit and that seems to have eliminated the problem for us. It has been several months since I cleaned the gasket and by leaving the door open after a wash (at least for a few hours) the mold so far has not returned. We also wipe the inside of the gasket with a paper towel after every few washes.

We've still got the old top loader & will keep it till it dies! No mold problems there...
 
We have a front loader and was aware of this possible problem. We always leave the door slightly open when not in use and have not run into any problems.

This is our first front loader, and I'm glad we got it. It's far better then the top loaders we used to use. The water and electric savings alone is worth the price of admission.
 
I try not to think about it.. so the problem does not exist...
 
We were using front loaders over 40 years ago, they worked great and didn't have a mold problem. This is not new technology.

We kept our top loaded well past it's death - repaired it several times in 30 years LOL! Finally decided to get a new one. The Front Loader uses a lot less water and detergent and does a better job cleaning cloths. Overall we love it, but just have to keep an eye on the mold, which hasn't been a problem since we started keeping the door open for a while after a wash.
 
Nothing lots and lots of deoodorant won't fix.... :devilgrin:

My wife's mother had a front loader for many, many years and so we have a front loader too. We have a Maytag Neptune now and when we bought it, the salesperson told us about the potential mold issue, advised us to leave the door open slightly and not leave loads in for long. No mold problems thus far. Our previous front loader had HORRIBLE mold issues - so bad that the manufacturer called it a defect and sent new seals to us for free. That didn't help much - plus it quit working. You win some, you lose some.

I`m a low tech redneck, One digital front loader was enough for me, couldn`t fix it! It was the ONLY washing machine we have ever owned that broke down within the first two years too! And NO it wasn`t just a mold problem, We could have lived with just that!
Matter of fact it was a nightmare to even work on! Threw in in the trash! Went and got another top loader with KNOBS and Mechanical switches! No mold, no muss no fuss and Wife and I are happy campers!

P.S. going on 11 years now and havn`t had to do anything to it except wipe it off once in a while *SMILE*
