Still not running!!

Popped smoke?

One other thing I noticed before I shut her down before I might set it on fire, was...I had the drop light kinda laying under the carb to the right a bit and as I gave it gas you could see unburned fuel spitting out of the carb. Is this a potential sign that it is too rich?

POTENTIAL SIGN, heck that was for sure sign. Shucks, or something wrong with the carb or timeing even, bet you get lots of comments on this.

Vince - Ya gotta be in your late '50's - early '60's to understand....but, trust me, its a good thing! (Well, so long as charlie isn't watching!)

Vince, the comment was directed to Doc. When I said "He popped smoke" I meant that you had indicated that you were in a jam. When I said that I was "loaded and in the area",I meant that I had the parts to fix it, and could handle it.
It comes from Fighter Pilot to Forward Air Controller chat.
If somebody "popped smoke" it indicated to us where they were in relation to the target. When I said I was "loaded and in the area", that meant that I had guns/bombs/ rockets, etc., on the aircraft available to hit the target, and was close enough to help.

Thanks for clearing that up. I'm a bit younger and never involved in the military so I am a bit rookie-ish on that chatter as well.
Jack timing should be fine & set my static and have only driven the car about 20 miles so I am not sure if the gas coming out is from that.
I was going to redo the valves & the timing once I get it re-started and it is running smoothly.

By timeing I ment, did it back fire just a bit when you were shutting it down? Would indicate timeing off just a few degrees maybe.

No it was while I was revving it. At the end of the rev, some gas "spittle" would come out but ther was not a backfire. Some of it would hit my arm and some would get sucked back in.

Is this when you are just letting off of the gas or when it is still reving?

If just as you let off of the gas it is understandable, the extra gas has to go someplace. Good idea to run air cleaners, they assist in stoping that. Long ago and far away lots of engine fires were caused when guys did not run air cleaners. In fact is a requirement that all boats for example have flame arresters.

I was not running the ac's just so I could get to the jets.
No fires please. I think I have only driven it a cautious 17.1 miles and I got a lot more driving to experience before i am done with her. Going out to the garage now to start on my boots.

heh... Vince, ya turned out to be a target of opportunity. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/jester.gif

War stories/talk?

Tilly was kind of into that as well.

Geez, Jack...

Wouldn't it be a "day" if the bunch of us could find a way to sit together and "swat flies"...... *sigh*

Yep, we would have to send the wives shopping or something though.

Hay we will get together one day, count on it.

I received the tubes but they are much smaller than mine. Will this be OK?

...to clarify, the length is fine it is the od/id that is too small.

All I know is there was this Chinook driver who always popped violet smoke as he left our position after dropping things off - I told him on radio once that if he did it again & Charlie didn't take him out of the sky, I would! Everytime he did it, we got mortars that night....
