That's a very fair question. Before I answer, I will explain the process required to move the cars around.
First, look at the photo of the garage. Now remember that there's another M.G. in the driveway as well as my wife's modern daily driver. Imagine you want to go for a drive through the countryside in the Y-Type. So you open he garage door and begin the process...
1. Move the B from the driveway to the street.
2. Move the MGC out of the garage to the street.
3. Move the TC out of the garage out to the street.
4. Lower the lift.
5. Move the YB off the lift, and out to the street.
6. Raise the lift.
7. Move the TC from the street to the garage.
8. Move the MGC from the street to the garage.
9. Move the B from the street to the driveway.
As you close the garage door, sweating and dirty, you realize you just spent 30 minutes getting ready to go for a drive. As an added bonus, you get to repeat the entire process when you get home!
Now that you understand one of the reasons why I might want to thin the heard, lets move on to the original question... why the Y?
Since the YB is used the least of the six cars, it is a logical choice to occupy one of the lifts. Considering now difficult it is to get the car out and back in when I want to take it somewhere, the end result is that it is rarely ever driven. If I'm not driving it, then it's really just a waste of space because selling a car would empty the center space in the garage. This not only makes getting a car off the lift MUCH easier, it also clears 60 square feet of work space in the garage.
That's why the Y. I'm not happy about it but it's the logical choice.
On the bright side, I have a list of people lined up to give me my asking price. Maybe I should have asked for more!
