Steve McQueen's Lotus Eleven

I was just killing time at the local Border's while my wife was busy emptying the mall when I came across the greatest book: McQueen's Machines. It's a coffeetable picture book of The Man's bikes, cars and airplanes. The coolest picture IMHO is the inside title page. It shows Steve standing behind his XK-SS and is taken from behind and over his Eleven on it's trailer. He was running the solo cockpit cover and le Mans windscreen, and the car looks great!! There are also some other pictures of the car inside, it was his 1st pure racer and he ran it during his TV western days and during the filming of the Magnificent Seven.

He sold the XK-SS to Bill Harrah for display in his Reno museum (where I saw it as a boy), but bought it back a few years later. Any idea where the Lotus went?

Not a clue. But it figures he HAD one! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/laugh.gif

Steve McQueen is the man! We got that book for my Dad for Xmas, and while at the Porsche Rennsport Reunion in Daytona I bought a Steve McQueen Gulf replica winter/pit LeMans jacket.

LOL I can relate, I bought a leather jacket in Italy 2 years ago because they had a picture of McQueen wearing the exact jacket in the window. He just looked so cool!! Too bad it doesn't seem to rub off on me.....

I saw an article recently - Motor Trend I think - about the new Bullit Mustang. It was test driven by McQueen's son. In the article it said in the 60's anyone one that was someone had a Ferrari and Mini - which McQueen did. I have Mini, I guess I am half way to being someone! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif LoL
