Steve McQueen's Ferrari up for auction

I just saw this on another forum.

It's a 1963 Ferrari 250 GT Berlinetta Lusso.

McQueens Ferrari crosses the block at Christies

They're saying it should go for between $800,000 and $1.2 million. Now I’ll admit that I'm no Prancing horse expert nor do I have any idea how to price a celebrity car. But given the celebrity in question – McQueen (the king of cool) does anybody else think that's a cheap estimate besides me?

All gonna depend on who wants it and what they're willing to spend to acquire it... I'll bet it goes for more than the projected 1.2 though. Unsullied Lusso, with a "history".

That's a prize catch there. I agree that 1.2M is a conservative estimate. Be intresting to see the results.

This is the Motor Trend article about Steve's Ferrari 250 GT .

Here are a couple of shots from MT write up of the car.

He also had a 1957 Jaguar XKSS. This was the car of which only 16 were produced before the tragic fire at the factory.

The MT write-up is a great read.

I actually have a story about the 275 GTS NART Spyder. In the town where I was born and raised (a small place in NC) there was a business man that bought a 275 GTS NART Spyder. From the horse's mouth (my mother worked for the man and I have ridden in the car), he traveled to Italy, was custom fitted for the seat and "test drove" the car through the Alps before having it shipped back to the States.

When McQueen's car was totalled, he contacted the only Ferrari dealer that sold the model and got a list of all the other owners. He then called this gentleman in NC and offered to buy the NARTA. My mother's boss kindly told him that he shouldn't have wrecked his. He still has the car in his garage to this day parked between matching Testarossas. One he bought the day they were released and the other was a birthday gift from his son (who, unknowingly) purchased it on the same day from the same dealer.

I dunno if the price is out of range - after all, it is restored & not in it original "as owned by McQueen" condition.....that's gotta lower its value.
