TR2/3/3A Steering with Escort rack

I have a 3A fitted with Ford Escort Rack & Pinion, 2.5 turns lock to lock.
Driving along the steering seems unbelieviley light, as if even like power steering.

A previous 3A I had, with the Moss kit, which I think had Mini steering, seemed a lot more practical with less sensativity.

Is this a normal thing with the Ford steering?

Can anyone comment please.

My only comment is that you are the first owner I remember ever to complain about light steering on a TR3.

I have the Moss kit, and at one point attempted to adapt the TR4 “quick throw” rack, but couldn’t make it work. After completing the restoration, I’m not interested in removing the front apron at all, so I’m happy with what I’ve got.

No personal experience, but a pal still with his shop has fitted the Moss conversion and highly recommends it.

Is it bolt on or did it require welding fixture to the chassis? I am currently at the situation where I could go in that direction as opposed to buying the parts to refurbish the steering box. My car has the two piece steering column.

I fitted a Moss rack conversion to my earlier 3A. This used a Mini LHD rack mounted upside down, no welding and split column with steering arms reversed Left to right. This system worked very well indeed.
My present 3A has a Escort rack, fitted by PO. It is a bolt on and utalises the existing TR rack mounts with a big mounting bracked bolted on. A lernerd gentleman, in the TR Register tells me that the Escort rack had to be shortened by 2" per side in order to fit as well as helped eleminating bump steer. The Steering arms are not reversed which he tells me helps with the Acerman angle if so done .
He tells me that my light steering is due to hard tyres and Tow In. I wait to find out.
