The motor on my 99 XJ8 that positions the steering wheel when the key is activatred has started to sound like a garbage disposal, and the wheel no longer moves in and out. Anyone ever repaired this?
Done a few at the shop. Nasty business getting the drive out of the dash. the fix is likely the flexible shaft from the motor to the jack screw. It can be replaced with a length of speedo cable if you can swage the ends to a square. I made a die to do it in the shop and have a few extra motors fixed and ready to install. If you send me your old one for a trade in, it'll save you a ton of money.
I haven't looked yet to determine how difficult it is to get to, and your words are not very encouraging. What's involved in getting to the cable and motor?
