steering wheel ID

Hey all, I can't figure out where the steering wheel on my Midget came from. The badge in the middle says formula, and there is a big f in the middle on a field of black and white check. The checkered part is framed by a ring that has the word "formula" at the top and stylized laurels filling the rest of it. Most of the color is gone, but it looks like the f in the middle was red at some point. I'm trying to refurbish this badge, or replace it, but since I can't find any reference to it on the internet anywhere, I thought I'd check if anyone had heard of it here. It's smaller than the stock wheel, with three chromed (or polished) spokes, each with a triangular segment removed. The wheel itself is woodgrain, and black leather-covered boots cover the spokes at the ends where they connect to the wooden rim. A black rubber cap fits over the center of the wheel, and the badge fits in the cap. When removed, it has a big square hole that fits over a big square boss, and a large nut holds it on. The normal wheels connect by 6 bolts, right? I don't have any good pictures of it but you can kinda see it in the picture I have attached. Any one know where it came from?

You have a seventies era Formula steering wheel.
I used to sell them when I worked at an autoparts store.
I have had a couple myself and still have one on my wife's Sprite. I love those wheels, even better IMHO than a Moto-Lita or Les Leston.
I am not positive on the "F" being red, but maybe some were.
Mine is black and white. No red. I do know that the original bugeye horn push will fit the center, so does the Lucas generic, Mini Austin crest, and the Triumph push along with old VW horn pushes.
If the wood is ratty, sand it down lightly and paint it with automotive clear coat. I started doing that to a few of my wood wheels and they hold up for years.

hey, thanks! I wasn't holding my breath on anyone being able to ID it. I guess the chances of my being able to get hold of the original badge is slim to none then. I'll either redo mine in black and white, or pick a replacement as per your suggestion. I was planning to do something along the lines of what you describe with the wood as well. If I remember to, I'll post a pic of it when it's done.
