We have a 1962 BJ7 with a Moto-Lita steering wheel. With the 'locking' collar completely loosened, I can pull the steering wheel rearwards until there is 6 1/2" between the dash (adjacent to the signal light flasher) and the rear of the flange on the steering wheel. Pushing it all the way in and snugging up the collar leaves 4 5/8" clearance.
My buddy remembers his fingers hitting the dash padding years ago when the wheel was pushed all the way forward. A flashlight inspection underneath didn't show anything out of the ordinary, and the dust looks pretty much undisturbed. The coiled spring cover movement also looks okay.
So, advice on movement and steering wheel clearance-to-dash requested. Thanks, Doug
