TR4/4A steering shaft/nut thread size

Good morning all! I'm ordering a tap and die for the steering shaft/nut for a 4a and I've narrowed it down to a 9/16-24 or 28, but I'm not convinced it's either. Does anyone have a definitive answer on the correct size?
Thanks, Rut

Rut-If the TR6 is the same as TR4A (and I think it is), I measured the steering shaft at .553" and 27 tpi. If you are trying to clean up the starting thread, you might consider one of the thread restoring tools that follows the existing threads.

Thanks, one shop measured it at 9/16-24, so I'm trying to get an exact number before I order.

From what I've been able to find out from several different sources on the internet is that the most popular guess/suggestion/measurement is 9/16-27. I was lucky enough to find both the tap and die for about $10 + $4.98 shipping...for $15 I'll take the chance since I have 4 shafts and nuts to clean up! I hope this size is eventually confirmed by the forum or by me in a couple of weeks, and I'll post back with my success or failure. Berry, thanks for your measurements and I'll check my TR6 as well. My Bugeye came with a TR6 steering wheel and a TR4 steering wheel fits as well, so I don't have to pull that rusty nut off the TR6 after all!
Thanks, Rut

Berry,
Thanks for your info on this and it looks like mine will be 9/16-27!
