IMO, the only reason to get the "whole enchilada" is if you wanna put new clamps on and don't want to waste time cleaning up the old ones, or if your old clamps are beyond re-use or gone all together. Other than that I'd just go for the boots themselves.

Or is there something else in the "whole enchilada" kits that I don't know about?

I've often wondered this myself. Might want to send an email to Kelvin Dodd and see what he has to say??
 
The main reason I asked is for quality. I want to put a better boot into place and make sure it fits. I called Autozone to ask q's.
(I was really impressed with there TAT and it was a lucas starter)
When I asked about the boots they said it is cut to fit. I thought that was weird and then asked where they get their parts from, Moss? They told me from Beck Arnley. I still think it is weird if you are ordering boots for a particular car that you would need to modify to fit. Is this true of all boot manuf.?

How can I contact Kelvin Dodd?
 
Thanks. And I was going to replace the whole enchilada but I would then be ordering 2 boots & 4 clamps insead of the kit.

For some reason I thought the older catalogs made a point to differentiate the brand of the boots (and the OEM were about 2-3X as much). I think they got a bad batch from a suppier. Or maybe I'm just getting old /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

The last kit I got from them arrived in a nondescript white box and so did the wheel bearings. I used the boot kit but resold the bearings on eBay and bought Timken from my local bearing house.
 
I just emailed KD. I'll see what he comes up with.

erm... the AutoZ boots are probably "universal fit" boots. The boot kits that you get from Moss and other normal MGB parts suppliers do not need cutting to fit.
 
Just hooked up with someone from my local club to pick up a few wheels. He just happened to have a new book kit. I know what I am doing tomorrow!!
