TR6 Steering rack disassembly

I was pulling a TR6 steering rack assembly apart to: 1. See how it’s done. 2. Try my hand at refurbishing it. And 3. Discover if most of the parts will interchange lhd to rhd. Everything went well and I found that everything but the pinion and housing/tube interchange. When I say well, I should add that I watched a couple of utube videos and read an article on disassembly and found that you do not drive out the pinion or the pinion bushing from the bottom as this will distort the bushing, contrary to what was posted. The good part of the story is that the bushing can be repaired/replaced without too much effort. The rack has been reassembled and works beautifully!

Feels good to figure it out and get it done and works fine. Good job.

Love the forum for this stuff, have torn most everything apart on my LBCs, but never a steering rack good information ( as an aside, never figured out why old cars have the worm gear type steering boxes, if I were designing a car from scratch it seems like it would be a lot more obvious and straightforward to design and manufacture an R & P setup.)
