General Tech Steering Rack Boots Torn

I jacked up my TR4 then saw what looked like fresh tears in the boots, particularly the passenger side. Looks like the “drop” of the rack arms from raising the vehicle puts a lot of pressure on the boots right near the tie-rods. Is that normal? Can’t think of any way to avoid that extra pressure and stress when raising the car, particularly when the wheels need to come off, like when working on brakes or other underside components. Just curious if you’ve all experienced this with the rubber rack boots. Thx

I have a steering rack in my parts stash that was installed briefly and has sat for a few years. The boots are cracking, and I'm sure that, if I installed it, any stress on them would tear them. You might have a similar problem. The solution is higher-quality boots, but those might be hard to find.

Many of these types of parts are imitations of the real thing, and fail very quickly. A bit of advise, if
it says China on the package, you are done .Send it back and get the good stuff.
