TR6 Steering question you will not hear every day

Hello all - I bought an old banjo bakelite steering wheel from a TR2 or 3 cheap on eBay and had a fun carpentry project putting a wood rim around it. Now that it turned out ok I want to put it on my.... '74 TR6. Alas, the splines on the end of my car's rod are 5/8" in diameter (pretty sure tapered) and the splined hole in the hub of the steering wheel is 3/4". Any bright ideas? Does such a thing exist as a spline bushing? I think I can figure out how to marry everything else cosmetically but of course one doesn't want to take any chance with a jerry-rig that ends up stripping out and leaving one with no functional steering!
Thanks, Scot M.
