Anyone know where I can find an oil seal for the input shaft of my steering box. It's all painted & rebuilt, but I need this seal. Moss and VB don't have it. The car is a late 1275: s/n GAN4U/74194 G, VB has the earlier seal, will this work?
Also what lubricant should I use? My Haynes book calls for 120 wt oil, but the box was filled with some kind of grease and has a grease fitting on it.

It looks like this would cover your VIN, am I missing something? If you have the old seal you can bring it to a bearing shop and they cam match it up. Also, look here: https://www2.chicago-rawhide.com/popup_parts_lookup_457010.htm and you should be able to look up the seal number by size.
 
Way to go Chris, I looked it up @ Chicago rawhide. It's an SKF 6152 (.625 X 1.00) Now I just have to wait until Monday and go and get it or order it. Thanks a lot!!

You should be able to walk into any good bearing house and walk out with the seal, and have spent less than $10. Source all your bearings and seals locally. Lots faster and less 'xpensive than "the usual suspects" and you can even choose to support John Timkin's racing habit!!! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I will concur with the less expensive part, but with Moss only about 50 miles away any parts that I order before 3:00PM arrive the next day. It's the $10.00 shipping that kills me though. I just consolidate all my parts into one order. Luckily there haven't been many items needed for this project. All the auto part houses around here just carry what sells: Japanese and German.
 
I meant a bearing house. Specialising in bearings and seals. Gotta be a dozen in the LA area. They don't even wanna KNOW what it came from... just what size it is. Price is less than "the usual suspects" and you have a choice of "generic" or REAL parts manufacturers (the "Timken" reference).
 
I agree, unfortunately that only works for bearings and seals. The model specific stuff has got to come from an auto parts supplier, Sure I could measure the seals in my calipers and then go and match them up by size, or I could spend $7.00 and buy the rebuild kit.
