steering column wiring harness

I am rewiring my MKII BT7. I pulled the stering wheel and had the traficator rebuilt with a new wiring harness. I left the old wiring harness in place hoping io use it to pull the new harness in. Is this the correct way to do this and what do I have to disconnect in the steering box to pull the old harness out. I have several shop manuals but none tell how to replace this wiring. Can anyone give me the procedure

Hello Bowen,

"Welcome" to the "BCF". I believe the best place to get an answer would be to post your question in the Healey section.

I`m certain you`ll get a ton of help there.

Best Wishes,

Russ

Hi Bowen,
Welcome to the Forum. You don't need to take the steering box apart to run the wires. Attach a piece of string or stove pipe wire to the old harness and pull it through leaving the string (or pipe wire) in the stator tube. Hopefully, the new traficator bullet connectors (on the end that attaches to the wiring harness at the front of the car) are soldered on. It may be possible to pull the connectors through if you can stagger them, but it's a lot easier to just remove them. Once through, re-solder.

Moving this to the Healey forum. Use the Member Introduction forum to tell us a bit about yourself.

Thank you, I thought I was posting on the Austin Healey site, you know how green horns are. How can I move it to that site or do I have to rewrite there? Help

Hi, Bowen, and welcome to the Forum. Greg discribed the procedure above exactly as I did mine. However, I will say that it's a lot easier if you remove the bullets and then re-solder them. Also, the color coding on the wires coming down through the stator tube does not match the wires that they connect to down by the radiator (at least on my 100-6 they didn't). It took me three different tries to get the connections right.

Good luck!

Larry
