Steering column repair

The steering column on my '71 B moves up and down. I was told that this can't be repaired because everything is self contained in the column? Apparently the older units you could repair. I'm getting ready to work on the front end and I'd really like to get this sorted. Any adice?

Try Gerry Masterman, he has built a bushing kit to take out all of the looseness.

Make sure the bolts that hold it under the dash are tight.
