Steering Column Felt Bushing

Hi all,

I am currently installing the steering column in my BJ7. As I did not take it out, I am not sure how to install it.

I noticed that a felt bushing is offered for the steering column. Where is this supposed to go?

Is there perhaps a video on how to install this?

It’s supposed to wrap around the column where the split aluminum clamp is .
I still have one sitting in my unused parts box as it was way to thick to fit and close the clamp . I ended up just wrapping some thin rubber around the column instead to fill the gap

Healey Nut is describing #59, rubber packing piece.
If you are asking about #9, felt bush, it is inside the housing tube of the steering box and supporting/centering the steering shaft just inside the upper end. You will see a shrunken ring in the outer housing a few inches from the upper end - the felt pushes into the tube and stops at this shrunken ring with the upper end just inside the end of the outer tube. It is cut with a spiral joint and is a b**tch to install when new, suggest oiling it to help getting it in.

Red57 is correct. I used a tube (maybe copper, maybe PVC, I can’t recall) to push it in evenly.
