I bought the steering column rebushing kit from TRF and was wondering what is the easiest way to install the bushings?

Should I lubricate them to get them in and if so what lubrication is recommended?
 
Hi Jon, I just use axle grease on the shaft and bushing and a hose clamp to compress the tits until you get them started down the shaft and hope you have them lined up. Wayne
 
If they are anything like the TR8 ones,(urethane) you soak them in really hot water to soften them up first and then push them in. You can also heat them up with a torch. Just don't get too close with the flame. They will go up like a marshmello.
 
Well the axle grease worked slick as snot... or shall I say slick as axle grease.
 
Another trick with rubber parts is to just spray them with a little WD-40. It makes the rubber slippery, then dries out and leaves it rigidly in place. I've used it on everything from motorcycle grips to golf club grips to the similar steering column bushings on my TR4. (I'm leery about using grease on the white nylon bushings because some greases gradually soften and damage certain types of nylon.)
