After taking apart my steering box, I discovered the inner race for the caged bearing assembly on the steering column cam is pitted. Does anyone have a source that repairs the race? Or a source to purchase a good used steering column cam assembly?

I have the same problem with my 64 BJ8. I am trying to decide if I can live with it being a little rough or if I want to try to use a milling machine and vice setup and a 1/4" solid carbid endmill and clean up the entire race. I even have an additional steering box but it has the same problem. Not sure what to do yet but I will watch this posting for answers. Have a good day!

Well John, if you can do that level of machining then you just might have it Magnetron sputtered and then milled back to standard size.?---Keoke

I am not familiar with the Magnetron process. Is it a flame sprayed hardsurface material and is it something you should be able to find at a good machine shop? I have just about finished the jigs necessary for the machining. I was also considering machining off the race and fitting a different bearing but I have not found one yet with the correct dimensions. Have a good day!

Had same moisture prob in my BN1 box, sourced new brg, seems there is a code called international number system, took it to local bearing company,they located timken look a like
 
John, Yes it is a flame sprayed type of process, there is also a hard chroming process that can be used.These services are usually supplied by specialists rather than the usual machine shop. However, if you can machine the fretting out and use a bearing with larger balls to take up the difference this may work too. But the matching bearing race will also require attention ---Fwiw---Keoke
