When the drop arm nut is tightened on to the hold down bracket how much space should be left between the two or how much of the rocker arm threads should be visible after it's tightened.
 
I am not sure exactly Karl of the distance remaining on the shaft when pitman arm is tightened up. The adjustment on the shaft which is basically zero leaves a rather large looking space and if the cover was off the box or the adjustment way off the shaft will slid up and down a dangerous amount on that space. Plus I bet the distance is almost the same on all steering boxes and next time I am under my car I will check. Are you concerned about your steering adjustment or does the gap look to large?

I am going to install a steering box I rebuilt at some point in the Spring.I checked the distance on my old steering box and it appears to be a 5/32" gap. On the rebuilt box it appears to be a bit wider. I'm now thinking that if it's that close that it dosn't matter. The setup was probably designed so the drop arm would not go all the way down on the threads and scrape against the the collar bracket.
