Steering box removal, Healey 3000

Having been invited to undergo the local vehicle check (only every 7 years here), the time has come to replace the steering box in my 1960 LHD BT7.

A question, does the radiator also have to come out as it says in the manual? or will the box squeeze out the side, which would be a lot quicker.

Thanks,
Richard

Hi Richard,

I think the steering box will come out the front with out removing the radiator but it will be a tight squeeze. Take a look from the front, on my car (BJ7) the steering box is right next to the radiator. But pulling the radiator is pretty easy .. easier than pulling and replacing the grill which needs to be done too.

If you are just replacing seals you can do that with the box still in the car.

Cheers,
John

Yes Richard, the steering box can be easily removed from tthe car with out removing the radiator. See picture K3 Page K2 in the factory manual---Keoke- /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif
