Steering Arms

I finally got my old tie rod ends off the steering arms and noticed that the hole for the tie rods are different sizes. I have a Bugeye with disc brakes/disc wheels and a 73 parts car with disc brakes/wire wheels. Is it ok to take the best arms and use them regardless of hole size or are they not interchangeable?
Thanks, Rut

Steering arms must match the the steering rack. You will also need proper bolts for the steering arms.

Trevor,
The racks on the Bugeye and on the parts car are the same, but have different tie rods and steering arms? Do I just need to match the tie rod ends to the steering arms or all of it together? The steering arms match each other except for the size of the hole so I'm not sure I understand.
Thanks, Rut

In '72 the steering rack was changed. When this occurred they had to change the steering arms to fit the TRE that fit on the rack. So... if you keep the bugeye rack, you need to use the bugeye TRE and the Bugeye steering arms. These steering arms should bolt to the '73 swivel axles.

If the the rack on the '73 is the same as the Bugeye, then someone switched one of them at some point.

Trevor,
Thanks again, I'm going by the mounting brackets that hold the rack in. The rack on the Bugeye is not the smoothest one around and I see the early racks on sale for about $130 or so. Would it be worth installing a new steering rack and TREs since that needs to be addressed as well? I think the old rack is original to the car, but have no way of knowing. Do these things wear out often?
Thanks, Rut

Rut,

The pinion gears and where it attaches to the Steering Column do as SIM was able to attest. See other Steering rack thread. Fairly inexpensive to replace on a BE Rack.

Jim,
Thanks for the info and I feel like a rebuild or replacement is in my future. I guess I won't know which direction to take until I dissassemble the original rack and check it out. I'm wondering if all the various parts and labor would be more than installing a new steering rack?
Thanks, Rut
