Stay Fast Top from Prestige

I just ordered a new Stay Fast top from Prestige in the UK. I opted a Stay Fast over the Mohair due to the folding issue that some are experiencing with it due to it's extra thickness. I would have liked to buy the top local, but the price differential eliminated that. The lowest price I got for a Stay Fast top with zip out window in the US was $500.00 LESS shipping. Directly from Prestige in the UK, the manufacturer, the total price is $452.95 INCLUDING the $30.00 shipping fee. I asked on line for some samples and they sent them within a week. Plus other info on their other products. Very nice people to deal with. Wish I had know of them before I bought my interior.

Interesting. You won't have to pay tax which is an advantage, (VAT = 17.5%!!!) but is there going to be an import duty slapped on it on this end? I shall be interested to see how it works for you, please let us know!

I didn't pay any import duty on the top and cover when I ordered from Prestige.Mind you I only ordered the vinyl ones.Maybe mohair is different.
Their service is excellent and so is their products. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/thumbsup.gif

I found a place out here in Cali called https://www.topsonline.com (they also do a lot of business on eBay) that sells "StayFast" tops with zip-out rear windows for $340'ish+shipping. However, they're an unknown entity to me. I've never met anyone that has one of their tops. Their price on these tops is so much less than the others it makes me wonder about quality.

Personally, I would be very careful about someone who cuts the price that much. There are so many fakes out there anymore, it makes you wonder. The use of the Stay Fast name might be bogus also. Seems kind of funny to me that the factory charges $422.95 for a top that someone else is selling for some 80+ bucks less. Also, I don't like e bay. As Forrest once said, it's like a box of chocolates, you never know what your going to get and e bay is a good example of that. I don't buy anything from there.

Yeah, that's one of the reasons I haven't ordered one from these guys yet. Their pricing seems ridiculously cheap compared to the competition. However, they've been around for at least as long as I've owned my B. So, I don't think their "scammers", but at their prices I have to wonder where they made their cost cuts.

They're sort of in my area. Maybe I'll see if I can stop by their shop sometime.

My local trim shop told me the top he sells for $1,000.00 installed costs him about $250.00. He sells it cash and carry for $600.00...not a bad mark-up.

As far as quality goes, if you have samples and good communications with the retailer I'd take a chance on the less expensive top. If you don't like the quality or fit you can always sell it on ebay and buy from a different supplier. When you buy a car with a top you seldom have an idea of who made it and I've never seen anybody buy a car and immediatley buy a new top because the perfectly good one on the car came from an unknown supplier.

It's kinda funny to me how some guys are so concerned about the APPEARANCE of their car but they will mindlessly install cheap Asian-sourced el cheapo engine and suspension parts without any question as to their quality...and this isn't aimed at any comment in this thread but just a general comment. A guy know put a high dollar interior in his MGB but is steering his car with a Chinese made rack...

With all of that said, I like Prestige (and their Heritage brand) very much. And I've ordered parts from GB and have never had to pay any tariff. I like the Stayfast material and the price he got from Prestige is very good.

I bought a Mohair boot from Prestige, love it and no import duty.

Also hand carried an interior trim set from Owen Lloyd for the Spit back from the UK. No import duty, it was less that the $800 limit.

When the top comes, I'll let you guys know what I think about it. PJ
