Every time I surf our forum I am facinated by the locations that you all are posting from. This got me to wondering, how does the population of BEs break down state by state, or which state has the largest BE population represented on BCF? I am no good at conducting polls, but I am curious

Maybe you can sort members by car?

Mike, up on the top menu you'll see a member map, I'm not sure if it breaks down by car or not.
Or in Frappr, you can look at sprite / midget owners.

You can there are 82 folks with Bugeyes, and some have more than one.

Go to home page and on the right side is a list of stuff, go to profiles and search away.

quick count

State of Confusion 12
State of Euphoria 1 (Jack)
State of Contentment - not sure they rarely show up here - always looking for something to change
State of excitement - most of us
State of silliness - lots

Excellent! You answered my curiosity perfectly!! Say no more... Say no more... A wink is as good as a nod to a blind man!

According to the BCF registry, and those who include the keyword "Bugeye" in "cars you own", and excluding the ciuple who would just "like to own" a bugeye, here are the results:

California 11, Texas 6, Virginia 5, Florida 4, Pennsylvania 4, Canada 4, Arizona 3, Illinois 3, Tennessee 3, Washington 3, Alabama 2, Connecticut 2, Kentucky 2, Maryland 2, Minnesota 2, Oregon 2, South Carolina 2, Australia 2, Georgia 1, Kansas 1, Massachusetts 1, Michigan 1, Missouri 1, North Carolina 1, Nebraska 1, New Mexico 1, New York 1, Rhode Island 1, Utah 1, West Virginia 1, Wyoming 1, UK 1.

Hey Chris, I must have got you curious too - VG!! Interesting distribution don't you think? Thats 76 cars unless some members have more than one - I do like Johns answer though /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cheers.gif

and one here in Aurora....Hi ya Oriental..

Gentlemen, I tender my profuse apologies, but I was only combing the BCF registered users who confess to owning one or more "Bugeye" cars. So much so, that I myself did not show up in the selection since I registered as owning an Austin Healey Sprite Mk I - Bugeye is a term I have only recently become accustomed to - I am used to the term Frogeye. The search criteria in the registry of BCF are not very rigorous.

If there were any more comprehensive database available, I promise I would put my years of SQL expertise to work immediately to extract the necessary data.

Please persuade all those Oriental-based Bugeye owners to register with BCF... By the way I love Oriental, it is a delightful place. I like it even more now I know there are a bunch of Bugeye owners living there.

Know of three more up here in the Florida Panhandle, not on list. But have been invited. One in P'cola, one in Panama City and one in Sandestin. All restored and quite nice.

Lookit em all comin' outta the woodwork! Alright now we cookin'!

Guess that is about 100 more or less that we know of. No telling how many more are around. However I would not think more than 500 to 1000 runners in the hole country and maybe that many that need help.

You know thats only about 5% left of the ones imported. Not going to be too long that they are going to become hard to come by.

My intuition says that is a very conservative estimate. Bugeyes are always well represented at shows and they were collectable from the very beginning. I suspect at least 10% remain - maybe more. Perhaps the real questions is: What is the co-relation between bugeye ownership in rust belt states versus southern (California-Texas-Florida states)

That being said - I suspect they will get harder to come by - unless Moss and VB let us start building from scratch /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Unfortunatlely, living in KC I become confussed on this question. KC is split by a state line. I know of 6 bugeyes in the KC area and I am the only person on the forum. Recently, a buddy that lives 20 miles south of KC (bugeye owner) bought a bugeye for the nose and grill from somebody in Wichita who owns 4 other bugeyes. The point is there are a lot of bugeyes out there not associated with the forum. Again, unfortunately, rust and neglect is taking its daily toll.

The Austin-Healey Club of America has a registry for all Healey models. The Sprite registry (AN5-AN9) is run by

Rick Moses
1421 E Chocolate Ave
Hershey, PA 17033

But the www.healeyclub.org website does not give an email address for him. Odd.

I did something similar several weeks ago during about of insomnia, looking at what countries had BCF members.

The problem is not just different names for the cars but the tendency for people not to specify where they are very fully- sometimes just State or City.

The chore for my next bout of insomnia is to see how many Members own each Marque....

Nor is the Healy club forthcomming or that guy in Australia with totals of cars registered.

For some reason they keep the list a big secret.
