My daughter sent me this.
"Someone I follow on Tumblr (she's's British) was asked about the different countries in the UK and she had this to say. I thought it was interesting.
"Scotland and england (and wales and northern ireland) are all part of the UK, so they’re the same country. passing between them is completely free, just as you can pass through different US states freely.
scotland might technically be its own country (i’m not sure what the exact criteria are) but basically it’s part of the UK so you’re not passing between borders, you don’t need a passport or anything."
So does that mean England isn't a country? It's more of a state/province? I'm confused now.""
Well??
