I've got a bit of a quandry. My TR3A runs super but when I shut it off,
it takes forever to start it.
I did notice my in-line fuel filter hardly has any gas in it but the bowl
on the fuel pump is full and when I pull the fuel line at the carbs
gas pumps out.
Any ideas?

What are the conditions? Is the trouble during a cold start or a hot re-start? Both?

A hot restart, but I was looking at some previous posts,
and someone suggested a richer mixture.
I've got mine leaned up pretty good.

i wonder if a heat shield might help you.... A hot start problem is one I've never had.

On a hot start your holding the gas pedal part way down?

Correct. From owners handbook, " When re-starting a hot engine, depress the accelerator pedal to about one-third of it's travel before operating the starter switch. The choke should not be used."

Sometimes the fuel can boil under a hot hood, and then a restart happens as you describe. When I used to drive the cars year round I remember it happening a lot. For whatever reason in my experience tired (high mileage) engines seem to have more trouble under these conditions than recent rebuilds. As mentioned opening the throttle a third (or more, experiment and do what works best) seems to help minimize the extra cranking.

All the TR3As that I've seen with aa extra clear glass fuel filter horizontally mounted near the front carb is 2/3 air and 1.3 gas. I have never had a glass filter like this and never had any issues with cold or hot starts. Remove and throw away that glass fuel filter and see what happens.
