TR2/3/3A starting scuttle repair

The one I have is broken and I plan to make a new one once I get time to get some measurements and pictures. The part that broke is missing. A project for down the road. Mad Dog I am curious how you are making yours. The one I have seems to be cast aluminum of some sort, I plan on my new one being steel so it doesn’t break in the future. Do you have any pictures? How much are you charging for your freshly cut bits? I will have to look at the lever again, might be a good time to work on it when I get snowed in. Frank

S C parts group LTD sells the assembly $240 us + shipping. It is not that hard a part to make and for that much money I can spend a lot of time on it if need be. Frank

Do you mean these parts?

Bonnet latch broken.jpg No David, the part I was referring to is the Bonnet catch. As you can see in the picture the lever that is used to unlatch ( I guess it is really a safety catch) the bonnet is broken off. I also don't like the double nuts but it keeps everything together for now. I don't think it will be hard to make once I find one I can copy. I will add this to my list of parts to look for next time I go to see Marvin. Frank

I was thinking this was not available but it is the hood lift assembly that is not available and I have that. Moss has the stay rod assembly $58 or you can get the safety catch separate for $23, pretty cheap but it looks like cast aluminum. Hard to beat the price unless you like making your own parts like I do. Frank

Be sure to post how you do it...always anxious to see how you work these problems!

PS...thanks for the thoughts about our weather. Yes, about 5 inches of snow and ice, which is nothing compared to up north, but we southerners are not used to it. 4 days ago we had a 139 car (and truck) pile up on an overpass. I tried to collect materials for some upholstery projects I could do indoors, but I waited to long...even Amazon got shut down. So just watching more re-runs of Ghost Busters.

I had to replace the catch on my car because it was snapped off like yours it needed a lot of reshaping to get the right fit, the nut should be a nylock.

I was lucky with my car having only surface rust . 99% was good. Some repairs. But I enjoy seeing your work. My welding improved a lot with the projects. I only wish I could also weld aluminum. Please keep posting, it is very motivating!
