well the title says it all; how long should i let the motor run and at what RPM so i can seat the rings ; the car dosen't have plates so i can't take it out on the road yet; the motor is all new ; block 30 over the head is a stage one with hardened seats ; 4 carbs and 4 tube headers stainless steel ; PRI did the head 10-1 comp. ; a lightened flywheel high tourque starter ; roller rockers etc. This is a toy for me i'm retired and have a need for some fun anyway what RPM & HOW LONG Thanks rick.

If you have the cam man. ,check their recommendations.
Usually 20 minutes or so at about 1600-2000. Turn off and drain oil and refresh. Then your good to go.
Don't forget to use the correct oil and cam break in lube

Ive heard 2500rpms for 20-30 minutes. Be sure you have the oil circulating before firing it off.

Also as DNK says, defintely add a cam break-in lube to the oil before you fire it.

The rings aren't going to seat for several hundred miles.

Regarding rings, one apparently common break-in procedure (once you have plates on the car) is to do about a dozen or so reasonably brisk sprints from about 20-25 mph up to maybe 50 mph in top gear...coast down...and repeat. This is the procedure (as outlined in "How to Keep Your Subaru Alive") my son and I followed earlier this past summer on the engine we built for his '81 Subaru GL, and it seemed to have "worked a treat" as they say. I've done similar "runs" in the past with other engines I've redone, both Triumph and Volvo, and it seems to have worked each time.

:whOh! don't forget the "ZDDP"oil additive AFTER the 2nd oil change & every oil change after.Especially at breakin.

well thanks to all used assembly lube on the cam and the bearings and filled the motor with brad penn green oil for the break in ;so now i guess it's time recheck everything get the keys and give it a shot. thanks everyone rick.

If you use Brad Penn oil you should be set. Run their racing oil for your everyday and you will be golden
