Starter....replace again?!

When I rebuilt my Midget last year of course I bought and replaced the starter...now its gone out. I know it is not a terribly expensive part and it came with a lifetime replacement guarentee...Is this why it is so inexpensive, because its cheap! Now I have to take it off, take in the core and get a new one every few months? Why don't they just charge me more and make one that lasts? It is a hassle to remove and they know it! I don't even have an option (do I?) because the local parts store sells one and this is it so I'm stuck with cheaply made parts that don't last (even if it has a lifetime replacement guarantee) its the idea of having to pull it off and replace it.
End of Rant....

You could replace it with a hi-torque starter. About $170 I think.

Terri, how did it fail this time? These things are blindingly simple to rebuild yourself. A bearing, a bushing, and some brushes pretty well cover a complete rebuild. Barring the rare failure of an armature, or a field coil, those items will generally do it. About an hour on the bench and you're done.

I realize that its easy to rebuild, but if its a replacement guarentee, would you rebuild or replace? (replace is free) The brushings are the problem...it starts the car cold, but once it warms up (I drive it to the store) It won't restart until it cools back down.

Sounds like a ground problem to me. Or just or, are you starting out of gear? You should.

I always start out of gear and let it warm up before I drive...I don't know...I'm gonna replace again and see if its just a bad starter. Maybe I just got a monday build....

Oh well, only two bolts and a nut for the hot wire.
