Starter Removal Technique - Bj8Cirque Du Starter?

Hi team:

I have to rebuild my Bj8 starter.

Following the original AH workshop manual it says to manoeuvre the starter under the oil filter to remove? Tried that, not enough space it seems.

The only two solutions that seem possible are the removal of the brake servo and passing the starter below or removal of the oil filter canister and pass the starter above...

Can someone comment on the proper technique?

Thanks so much,

Andrew

Hi Andrew1, If you can not get the starter to pass under the oil filter, you have two options. 1]remove the filter and the Dizzy and lift it out the top. 2] unbolt the booster move it back a bit and sneak the starter out the bottom.Using this latter technique requires care as the brake lines are connected.-Fwiw-Keoke

I just pulled the starter from my Healey Thursday night; time to get rid of that lethargic dinosaur and replace it with the gear-driven one that Moss offers.

For a car without the brake servo and a remote mounted filter, it just drops out the bottom with nothing in the way.

The new starter works like a charm and weighs about 1/3 the original.

Next on the agenda is to machine a simpler oil cooler adapter than the cobbled up original 90 degree filter mount.
