TR6 Starter removal help. 73 TR6

I'm going to remove my starter today and was wondering if someone could advise as to the easiest method. Not sure if my problem is electrical or mechanical, but I do know it is filthy at the connections with dirt, oil and acid. Do I need to remove the rear carb? Very difficult to see these connections from top or bottom; either muffler pipes (from below) or carb/intake (from the top) are in the way of making this simple. Any advice to make this simpler would be appreciated. Thank you.

Disconnect battery. Better yet, remove it from the car! Remove air filter. Leave the carb on. Remove bolts that hold starter on. No easy way to do that unless the tunnel inside the car has been removed. Gently move starter around until you can see the electrical connections. Clean up the area where the electical connections are so you can see the color codes on the wires. Take a picture of where the wires go. Disconnect wires and pull starter out from the top.
