I need to take off the pulley but I will have to buy a 1/2 socket. Does anyone know the size of this nut on a BJ8. I think it is 1 13/16???

Not a BJ8, but to fit the dampener on the 3000 engine in my car:

Yes, the crank nut.It is hard to get a measurement on it as it will be done with the engine mounted.
Randy, I would believe it is the same as Moss does not specify a year. I'll go with a 1 11/16.

The nut holding the front pulley to the crankshaft is a large and somewhat odd size. Its a WHITWORTH 1 1/8 inch nut. A "standard" AF size 1 11/16 may be used.

I got a cheap-ish 3/4 inch drive socket and a 1/2-3/4 adapter so I could use my 1/2 inch drive socket/ratchet/breaker bar.... Works fine.
 
I used a 1 3/4 wrench as well, after no amount of pressure with a breaker bar would remove mine and them a breaker bar with an extension (I broke one of my breaker bars in the process) I followed the instruction in the manual and got a large wrench (as opposed to a socket) put the wrench on the nut struck with hammer a few times and bingo.

I have heard many different stories about cranks nuts, from came off on its own to more on my end of things, but if it is stuck the above method with wrench and hammer works well.
 
Since I just replaced mine, it's 1 11/16". I used a 3/4" drive socket, a slide bar, put the transmission in 4th and a hammer (engine is in the car - what a pain :wall:).
