Starter issues?

When the bugeye's motor that had been in for approx. 5 yrs. I found a ring gear that had been worn excessivily. It was newly installed when I put the motor in. I hadn't noticed any problem with the starter. So, what I'm saying is take care of the problem now.

Boys if you ever get your hands on a gear reduction starter, you'll never look at one of the Lucas POS ever again. I have a racing buddy who refuses to buy a gear reduction starter for his Midget race car, he's toasted atleast 5 Advnaced Auto Parts rebuilt starters now, oh yeah they warranty them, he still had to deal with problem at the race track though. Life is short, get the good stuff when you can, in most cases by the time you get through dealing Lucas starters you could have bought a gear reduction unit anyway, I've seen that more times than one.

i drove right by advance auto to Oreillys for my $30 starter...Lucas, and works fine!....
you guys need to check ur ring gears....mine is new, and my car never slips that ive noticed............zimmy

I think that in order for Lucas starters to work correctly your engine must be fairly worn out. I'm sure they entered this into the equation when designing them. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wink.gif

Whoooo, good thought Trevor.

Trevor, am I reading this right? The more wear the better? Is this some Lucas secret voodoo? No wonder I have trouble with things Lucas, I keep buying NEW ones!!! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/whistle.gif

LOL, yep, real worn out.

Hap, ever climb on the brakes really hard running a Lucas starter, and have the drive lunge into the flywheel? That gets your attention real quick!
