TR2/3/3A Starter and Flywheel Combinations

I've searched a good bit and am just confirming my findings. A Long Nose Starter is to be used with a shrink on ring gear flywheel and a Short Nose (or open gear) starter should be used with a bolt on ring gear flywheel. So the real question is can I swap flywheels between engines to get the configuration I want? I have a high torque starter configured for a shrunk on ring gear that I want to use on an engine that currently has a flywheel with a bolt on ring gear.

Thanks,
Steve

Another option is to have a starter shop change the pinion on the starter. Friend of mine did that, and the shop didn't even charge for the service.
