Stahlwille part #12616 balljoint puller

Well, I'm still working on trying to get the steering lever off of the steering box, while it's still in the car! I've tried several pullers and can't seem to get them to work right. Most of them just won't fit or if they fit there's no room to tighten the bolt down to pull the lever off. I know that several people have suggested the stahlwille puller. I just wanted to make sure if I ordered it, it would work on the lever in the car because it's about $125.00! All answers or comments are appreciated to us challenged backyard mechanics! Thanks!

You know, if you have the tie rods off, you can unbolt the box from the chassis, loosen it under the dash, and turn it sideways to get your puller(s) to fit.

This is still better than having to remove the grill (or spending $125.00).

Bolt the box, even if loosely, back to the chassis while you do your other work.

Thanks, I had thought of that, but didn't know if it would work or not. . I'll give it a try, it's definitely better than spending a $125!

randy, im thinkin heat,fork,and hammer,smoore heat an more hammer, least thats the way ive gotten some of the worst ones off, including my own bj7.

Just remembered Using two hammers and applying blows on opposite sides gets them all the time it is an art though----Keoke

keoke, in that condition ya dont think hes gunna have to replace them if possible?, what i did was just heat the end of the arm keeping as far off the box as i could, didnt take much and that puppy jumped right off with two smart pops. and yes i am an ARRTEEST!

I found that one of the inexpensive pullers almost was the right size so I weld about an 1/8 bead to each of the hooks and it fit well and pulled it right off.

Yeah that sounded about right. The first time I did one I used one of those cheap $15.00 soft aluminum ones from you know where

and placed a"C" clamp across the legs so it would not bend popped it right off.--Keoke-

And it only hurts if you get your finger trapped between them!

It's finally off and the seals are changed! I ended up taking the box loose and dropping the steering column in the the car. After that I was able to turn the box enough to get a puller on it and with a some WR40 and a good wrench it came loose! Thanks everyone for all the help!!
