Sorry I couldn't resist.

I don't often venture on to the Triunmph board, but I think that this is of interest to you guys.

I have a lead on a Stag. Exact vintage or condition is uknown, but I have it on good authority that it may be for sale. It is currently standing in the open close to a regional airport here, the owner was planning on restoring it, but.......well, you know how that goes.

What should I look for? Rust, obviously, but where are the problem areas? And if it is beyond salvation, would anyone be interested in it as a parts car?

The owner's uncle is trying to set up a visit for me to see the car, so it may take some time...........

In addition, the uncle has three Spitfire chassis, a "dipped" Spitfir shell, a further parts car and a GT6 body, described as "rough".

I shall report in due course, and I shall also take my digital camera........

We're actually pretty civil over here on the TR side...

I'm no Stag expert but I know the engines were somewhat questionable...a V-8 version of the TR7 engine.

But they are pretty rare and parts would be of some value...IMHO. I've always thought of them as a Spitfire on steroids...

So if I get travel west on I-94 and exit at Silvernail Road will I be close?

Hi Steve:

Not a Stag guy, although they are kinda nice, here's a link to what to look for from the VTR.

Only thing I remeber is the engine can have some issues and a particular to this vehicle.

You would be pretty much spot-on! Unfortunately I do not have a better location than that.

Gary, thanks for the link...........I'll check it out.

This kind of information will intrigue Stag owners (myself included). Whole cars are always nice, but we need parts cars too.
The engines are problematic, but these problems can be fixed. Rust is always an issue. Wheel arches, front and rear lips, and floors are areas to inspect.
Good stuff to look for would be overdrive and the steel hardtop. The Stag is one of the nicest cars I have driven (English or otherwise), and I'm guessing there will be one in my family for many years to come. The one in the picture has a Ford 289 under the hood. It gives the car a good power/weight ratio, and isn't too bad to feed.
