with 5000 miles on the TR the front brakes are squeaking real loud I have champfered the pads at a 45 degreeangle, cleaned everything and used permatex anti squeal spray. Worked for about 10 miles and the noise is back, Any other suggestions??
Going for a drive thru San Francisco and the hill of the north bay on Saturday . The squeal takes away some of the coolness factor.

Anti-squeal shims can be used behind the front disc pads. They are, essentially, a thin layer of resilient material, between the piston and the back of the pad, that absorb this vibration and reduce the noise.

Turning the discs, to restore the smooth finish, is also said to help.

I feel your anxiety. I, too, have stepped on really "uncool" TR3 brakes. The looks on receives are not admiring ones.

What worked for me was to find some soft, aluminum "cut to size" shims at the local parts store. These cut with scissors, and stick to the back of the pads (between pad & piston).

Turned out those pads (the ones that wanted to squeal) didn't work very well anyway, so I eventually changed them out.

Thanks for the suggestions, I will pick up some shims tomorrow. I bought the pads from e-bay Quality?? I think i will order some from Moss.

They're spendy, but I got the Green Stuff pads from TRF. I couldn't tell you if they stop any quicker, or not. I can tell you that I don't feel that they are in any way "inadequate."
And, I haven't heard a single peep from my front brakes.

Dan,
brake pad material is a factor also.
The green stuff pads are most likely organic ,with kevlar or similar material, good stopping, dont tear up rotors, quiet.
Semi metalic-better friction/stopping harder on rotors
Metallic higest friction, best stopping, hardest on rotors, noisiest. Also if you use metalic pads on a rotor that wasnt new or fresly turned that can cause problems.

have fun

MOSS Clasic gold ceramic pad set solved my TR6 & TR3A brake squeeks.
No adnormal wear at this time and they are not that much $$$$$.

If you haven't already done so. Sand the rotors and the pads with 80 grit sand paper to remove any glaze. After sanding use Acetone to clean the surfaces. One thing we used to do was to mount 2 hack saw blades in a frame to make the cut wider and than cutting a groove into the friction material of the pad about halfway between the leading and trailing edges of the pad. The cut should only be about 1/8" deep. This gave a place for the brake dust to exit. We also beveled the leading and trailing edges at 45 degrees. Switching to a different pad material is a good way to go as well.

When I got my car the front brakes could be heard blocks away they were so loud. There was a brand new set of green pads on it (I was told they were "the best.). The were also quite expensive, so I was told.

I put gobs of anti-squeel grease on he back side of the pads, as instructed, and that cut the noise down considerably... but not entirely.

I ended up replacing them with MOSS Classic gold ceramic pads and the sound went away entirely. And they are not expensive.
