Squealing brakes

I have put several hundred miles on my car since I installed a disc brake conversion. When I apply the brakes and have almost stopped they squeal loudly. I understand that they apparently are not bedded in properly. I have tried to bed them in by driving to 40 mph or so and then hitting the brakes relatively hard until the car almost stops and then acclerating back up to speed and repeating the process. I did this maybe ten times and then when I slowed to get back into my driveway there was the usual high pitched squeal. Do I need to really lay hard on the brakes from a higher speed or is there a better technique?

Did you put the anti squeal pads between the shows and pistons?
If you did not, just take the pads out and get some anti squeal spray and use that instead.

I am totally new to the disc brake setup. I bought my conversion as a bolt on setup and simply installed it. I'll have to pull the pads to see if there are anti-squeal pads in there and either replace them or install them if they aren't in there now. I didn't know what to look for before I replaced my original drum brakes. Thanks for the scoop.

Nelson, i think you should be able to see the pads without removing the brakes. Turn the wheels so the caliper is visible and look for a thin metal "shim" the size of the pads between the pads and the piston. Thay have a little flange on them that should be visible. You are looking down in where the retaining cotter pins sit.

There is a shim behind the pads. I pulled the pads and sanded the surfaces to be sure that there was no glazing. Then I bought some anti squeal spray from NAPA and sprayed the back of the pads. With the small amount of driving I have done since then all I hear is the sound of silence when I stop. Thanks guys.
